From a Pawned Smith Corona is home to the ruminations and reveries of veteran writer and editor Jack Croft (AKA, the person writing this). The blog’s title is inspired by a line from one of my all-time favorite songs, Warren Zevon’s Carmelita. In a career spanning almost five decades, I have worked as an award-winning reporter and editor at newspapers from Delaware to Nebraska, and from Connecticut to Florida; as a writer and editor for the late and greatly lamented Rodale Press and other book publishers; as editorial director for a decade at Lehigh University; and as editorial manager for a decade at SCP, a socially responsible communications firm in Philadelphia. Now semi-retired, I continue to do limited freelance writing and editing. This blog is an outlet for my more personal writing.

As the subtitle says, this blog shares my musings on music, politics, writing, and sports–all of which have been lifelong passions that often intertwine. The opinions expressed on this blog are mine and mine alone. As if anyone else would want to claim credit for them …
